Angela Bassett: 'It feels good that people wonder about my age'

Angela Bassett has admitted it makes her feel good that people wonder how she stays looking so youthful.

The 60-year-old Black Panther star has worn a series of daring looks on the red carpet of late, particularly favoring embellished jumpsuits that show off her gym-toned body. But it was a recent Instagram post of the star on holiday, looking svelte in a black swimsuit, that garnered a huge response.

“That was surprising. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. It feels good that they wonder,” admitted Angela to W magazine about those who are desperate to learn her youth-sustaining secrets.

In a video that went viral in August, the actress was asked about her health and fitness regimen by journalist Laila Muhammad during an interview to promote film Mission: Impossible - Fallout. And she explained that she follows an eating plan that rotates eating carbs and fruit, then protein and veggies.

"No fats those four days, and then the last three days, I flood it with fat. Good fat, though," she said.

And the mother of two, who has 12-year-old fraternal twins Slater and Bronwyn with her actor husband Courtney B. Vance, combines her healthy diet with daily strength and cardio workouts.

While Angela happily shared the secrets to her youthful success, the public's preoccupation with her age does at times bring out her sarcastic streak.

When a woman who spotted her bagging up her groceries at a Whole Foods store in Los Angeles whispered to her, “You look so young”, she replied with: “Hearing that is a wonderful thing — seeing as I’m 80!’”

“As we advance, 60 is the new 40, or 70 is the new 50," sighed Angela. "It keeps getting pushed. But you have to keep the stress down and the attitude hot.”
