Brandon Maxwell 'beyond thrilled' to land Project Runway gig

Brandon Maxwell has described his new judging gig on Project Runway as a dream come true.

On Wednesday (10Oct18), producers for the Bravo reality TV design competition show announced that Maxwell would be joining former Teen Vogue editor Elaine Welteroth on the panel for the upcoming season 17, while Christian Siriano will be a mentor and Karlie Kloss will act as host, succeeding Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum.

Regarding the news, Maxwell has taken to Instagram to share an emotional post explaining just how significant the role is for him.

"I am beyond thrilled to be joining a legacy show that promotes the idea that your work is what will take you far, and I hope that I will be able to impart some helpful knowledge from my sometimes-fraught journey into the successful careers of other like-minded young designers like myself," he began. "This is a very proud day for me, and some of you may not understand why, but I hope that other kids like me will. I see you. I am scared to take this leap in my life, of course, but I hope that I will always represent you."

Maxwell is considered a rising star in the fashion world, having acted as Lady Gaga's style director since 2012. He founded his own ready-to-wear label in 2015.

And in his lengthy statement, he explained that the timing of the Project Runway announcement was particularly fortuitous.

"Today at 3 pm as this announcement went out, it was oh so fateful that I found myself sitting at a pizza joint on 33rd Street and 7th Avenue," the 34-year-old shared. "I opened up my phone and couldn't help but to start crying. It was on that same street 9 years ago where I started my first internship in New York City. Chubby, badly dressed, with no connections, yet filled with dreams and a can-do attitude, I set out into the exhilarating unknown and into a life I NEVER could have known was possible for me."

To conclude, Maxwell noted that he wanted to thank all the people who have supported his endeavors.

A potential release date for the new season of Project Runway has yet to be confirmed.

Show veterans Klum and Gunn are set to join an unnamed fashion reality competition on Amazon Video.
