Jeremy Scott delivered a collection full of vibrant graphics and clever throwbacks for spring 2019.
The designer showcased his latest line on Thursday night (06Sep18) at Spring Studios in New York City, where the front row was graces by the likes of Gigi Hadid, Paris Jackson and Tiffany Haddish. And the crowd was treated to a '90s offering full of oversized slogans, cartoon characters and images of Jeremy Scott himself.
"It was inspired by my old Polaroids," he told Tampa Bay Times. "All the different elements where I'm experimenting with looks on myself, things that we were doing in 1996, a time before gender fluidity was a term."
The presentation kicked off with flashes of neon orange across oversized sweatshirts, PVC jumpsuits and surfer shirts, which were given a hedonistic edgy twist with bold colorful embroideries, depicting words like 'Riot' 'Sex' and 'Power'. These prominent words were also splashed across garments including a camo-print mini skirt, a khaki geometric cross body bag and skin-tight T-shirts.
The fun cartoon theme was expanded on further into the collection thanks to the inclusion of iconic characters such as Pokemon's Pikachu, who was featured on neon pink and baby blue sweatshirts - one of which was modelled by Migos star Offset, whose wife Cardi B cheered him on in the FROW as he made his modelling debut.
Scott also took his Polaroid inspiration literally by incorporating images of his own face into the designs. Pictures of the 43-year-old in his younger years were splashed over T-shirts and hoodies, while multiple photographs were tiled across a white mini skirt, and a long-sleeved, ankle length dress.
"Often we have muses for our fashion. I decided I was my own muse this season," he smiled.
New York Fashion Week continues on Friday with shows by by fashion houses including Tory Burch.
